January 22, 2012Hudson Landing Sewer District Moving through Town of Ulster and City of Kingston

The City of Kingston Common Council and the Town of Ulster Board is expected to approve the Hudson Landing new sewer district in the coming month.

At a recent Town Board meeting the agreement between the Town and the City was discussed during a public hearing. The agreement will allow the Hudson Landing residential development to send up to 180,000 gallons of wastewater to the Kingston sewage treatment plant. Establishing a new district in East Kingston will cover the costs involved with connecting to the city system.

“This agreement allows the residential units that will be built in the town of Ulster side of the development to be able to access and use the City of Kingston sewer system.” said Town Attorney Jason Kovacs. Hudson Landing straddles the town of Ulster and the Kingston line. The agreement sets out ways the new district will be utilizing the system and establishes the rates.

Town Supervisor James Quigley says the agreement provides assurance that the district would not be liable for damages caused by the city. Under agreement city officials will not accept stormwater from Hudson Landing. The Hudson Landing riverfront community will have 600 units on 165 acres in the town of Ulster and over 1050 units on 177 acres in the city of Kingston.
