Feb 28 Shawangunk Ridge Biodiversity Partnership Lecture Series

Eel Migration in the Hudson River

With Chris Bowser, Education Coordinator for the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. The tiny "glass eel", a fish most of us are not even aware of, is in decline in the Hudson River, causing a ripple effect on many other species in this unique habitat. Learn about this amazing animal and the efforts being made by citizens all along the Hudson to collect critical data to study their migrations and populations. This lecture will take place at SUNY New Paltz, Lecture Hall 102. FREE.

Feb 28 Give a Hoot Owl Hike - Shaupeneak Ridge

After a brief overview about the preserve's resident owls, we'll head into the woods, where an expert bird-caller will attempt to attract these majestic birds. Feb 26 Minnewaska State Park Tuesday Trek: Tillson Lake Snowshoe

Explore a lesser used area of Minnewaska - snowshoe the trails around Tillson Lake, a large pond surrounded by young woods and wetlands. Snowshoes may be rented from the Park Office, located at the Peter's Kill Climbing Area. Early arrival is suggested for snowshoe rental. If there is no snow, this will be a hike. This outing will meet at the Peter's Kill Park Climbing Area and participants can follow park staff to the Tillson Lake parking lot. Pre-registration required, please call 845-255-0752. The parking fee is $8 per car.

The hope of attaining freedom inspired hundreds of slaves to risk the perils of running away and live a fugitive life.

Feb 23 16th Annual Chili Bowl Fiesta

The Women's Studio Workshop invites the community to celebrate locally crafted ceramics by browsing and buying from a vast selection of handmade bowls and tumblers. Each purchased bowl or tumbler comes with a hearty helping of chili donated by Hudson Valley restaurants and chefs. Over 20 local chefs and restaurants contribute more than 50 gallons of delicious beans to the fundraiser every year. Beating the winter blues never tasted so good! Singles and Sociables outings welcome adult hikers, single and non-single, aged 18 and above. No reservations required. Meet at the Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center. Free for Mohonk Preserve members, non-members, $12 hiking day use fee (includes a day pass which allows hiking access to Preserve lands for a full day, sunrise to sunset, and can be credited for up to two weeks towards a membership).
