A Brief History of Kingston

Kingston is a vibrant city with a current population of 23,000.  The small charming city features its rich history and architecture and has a thriving arts community.  Whether on the downtown waterfront Rondout area or in the historical uptown Stockade district, Kingston is known for its fine restaurants, boutique shopping,  cultural events and friendly holiday festivals.

Kingston dates back to 1652 when the Dutch settled the area.  Kingston was New York State’s first capital. The original Senate House is a main tourist attraction for the region.
