Hot Coffee for Cold Days

Ulster County is a winter wonderland of cold weather activities - skiing, sledding, ice climbing, hiking, snow boarding and more. From Belleayre Mountain and Minnewaska State Park to the Kiwanis Ice Arena and Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, outdoor enthusiasts will find activities for all experience levels. But when cold whether hits, nothing warms you up better than a hot cup of coffee.

One of the 10,000 things I love about living right here in Ulster County is that I can get a great cup of coffee at so many non-chain eateries. Wherever you are in the county, there's a hot coffee spot not too far away.

Mudd Puddle is right near my home and right next to the Rail Trail. Long walk or not, it's the place I head to most often. My favorite hot brew? Funky gunk - fresh roasted and brewed with mocha, almond and hazelnut. Truth be told, it's where I am right now, laptop on hand. I had to do the research!!

Hudson Coffee Traders in Uptown Kingston is also outstanding. Here's what one customer had to say, "The staff is always wonderful, and the ambiance is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee or any of their wonderful lunch wraps and I have to say--the BEST cranberry muffins EVER!! This is a fantastic coffee experience you won't forget." Nuff said.

Joshua's Café is a great place to relax and refresh while shopping in Woodstock. A Middle Eastern café that's one of the oldest restaurants in Woodstock, they have an amazing Java Lounge upstairs. Serving coffees, teas and with a full bar, you can sit and sip while watching what's going on in town. Free wifi, board games and newspapers make Joshua's one of those places that you can just stay at for hours.

My coffee sipping neighbor next to me at Mudd Puddle says she likes Dave's Coffee House in Saugerties - We stopped in because we heard live music when we walked by after having dinner around the corner. Nice place, good music, good atmosphere and I had a great mochachino!

You can't write about Ulster County Coffee without mentioning Monkey Joe Coffee Roasting on Broadway in Kingston. They specialize in roasting single-origin, specialty-grade coffees from all over the world - no blends here.

So next time you're out and about in Ulster, stop in when you need something that will really warm up your spirits and nothing does that better than a cup of seriously delicious coffee.

As always....let me know where you're favorite hot coffee spot is.
